The Digital Ion Drift Meter was provided by
the Air Force Research Laboratory, Hanscom AFB, USA. It determines
ion distributions and moments (density, temperature, drift
velocity) and can be used in computing V x B electric fields.
There is a companion Planar Langmuir Probe used for spacecraft
potential and electron density and temperature determinations.
The DIDM and PLP data are used to help separate internal-source
and external-source magnetic field variations, the former being
a primary focus of the mission.
