      <Description>The Solar Optical telescope on Hinode consists 
of a main 50cm aperture telescope and a CCD-based focal plane package.  
SOT is optimized for accurate measurement of the vector magnetic field 
in the photosphere and the dynamics of both the photosphere and 
chromosphere associated with the magnetic fields.  SOT obtains 
diffraction-limited images (0.2-0.3") in the 388-668 nm range.  
Pointing stability is maintained at &lt; 0.09" in 3 sigma.</Description>
